It is a Spanish company engaged in the provision of employment for the handicapped and disabled and other related activities. The company, with registered office in Madrid, Spain, was created in 1989 by Fundacian ONCE to facilitate vocational and social integration for disabled people in Spain. It is a subsidiary of Fundacian ONCE, which encourages other organizations and administrations to take part in specific programmes aimed at providing equal opportunities to the disabled. Since its creation in 1989, it has become a solid business group, with great capacity for investment in new projects that can generate large-scale employment for the disabled, without casting aside the criteria of business efficiency. In the year 2002, it created approximately 15,233 jobs, of which more than 8,000 were for disabled people. The sole objective of the company is to generate and manage employment for the disabled, either directly or in collaboration with other economic and social agents. At the same time, it also strives to obtain profits in order to be self-sufficient. The company combines business efficiency with the main objective of finding jobs for handicapped people. It is the vehicle used to gather information and advise all public and private entities, handicapped associations and any other kind of centers that are interested in creating employment for the disabled. The company is present in five areas of activity: the industrial sector, technology products and services, the services sector, socio-sanitary products and accessibility. It groups together 34 fully owned companies, including the parent company, as well as 36 companies in which it holds a shareholding. It has a total of 176 work centers (mainly special employment centers) located throughout Spain and employs more than 11,600 workers, of which approximately 7,400 workers are disabled. The centers, the majority of which have been awarded quality certificates, are distributed throughout all the Autonomous Regions.
