The company is primarily engaged in the distribution and depuration of water. It was created to incorporate and take over the activities of Seragua, Sociedad Mediterranea de Aguas and Sogesur in 2002. But prior to its establishment, it was incorporated in the form of Socieded Anonima in May of 1980. The company has a registered office located in Madrid, Spain. It is the world’s third-largest water management company. The company's areas of activity are: management of public water services, solutions for water use in industry, design and construction of water treatment plants, maintenance and operation of infrastructures for associations representing the joint interests of irrigators, and water infrastructure concessions. Its mission is to continuously improve its integral water management services. In developing its strategy of integrated water management, the company manages and operates drinking water and drainage services and is present all over Spain. Examples of this management include in Almería, Ávila, Badajoz, Jaén, Lleida, Oviedo, Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife) and Salamanca. Through its subsidiaries, the company is active in France and Colombia.
