The history of the company goes back to 1717, when the Navy General Intendant Jose Patino ordered the construction of the first modern shipyard of its country, the Royal Arsenal of La Carraca. Later, the Arsenal of Cartagena was built in 1731 and the Arsenal of Ferrol in 1750. These military arsenals were dedicated to the construction and repair of Spanish Navy ships. The company, a Spanish company that belongs to the SEPI (a state-owned enterprise subordinate to the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Treasury), is a world leader in the products it offers: design and construction of hi-tech military vessels and civil vessels; design and manufacturing of control and combat systems; technology transfer; overhauls and alterations of military and civil vessels; support to the service life of its vessels and systems; diesel engine manufacturing; and turbine manufacturing. It offers integral solutions to its clients, as it has the capacity required to assume responsibility over any naval program in the world, delivering fully operational vessels, and the required support throughout the service life of the product. The company has established agreements with technological and strategy partners (Lockheed Martin, Indra, Thales, MTU, etc.) as well as with local partners (joint ventures with local shipyards to build vessels in other countries). It has a marked tendency to export. It has developed naval programs in more than 19 countries, and currently has offices in Australia, Qatar, India, Turkey and Brazil. At a domestic scale, the company's main customer is the Spanish Navy. This collaboration dates back 250 years.
