The company, with registered head office located in Madrid, Spain, operates as a private university in Spain. It is a Roman Catholic institution run by the Society of Jesus. The university has approximately 10,000 students. It is involved in a number of academic exchange programmes, work practice schemes and international projects with more than 200 Higher Education Institutions in Europe, Latin America, North America and Asia. The university was founded by Pope Leo XIII in 1890 as the Seminary of San Antonio de Padua in the town of Comillas (Cantabria, Spain) in response to efforts made by the Marquis of Comillas to build an institution for educating candidates to the priesthood.
