Extraction of crude petroleum
The company is engaged in oil and gas exploration and production, mainly in Colombia. It was established in November of 2000 and has its registered head office located in Madrid, Spain. In Colombia, it works in partnership with various companies, with exploration and exploitation activities at small oilfields situated in the upper and mid-Magdalena valley and the Llanos Basin. The Espinal Block in the upper Magdalena valley produces approximately 250,000 barrels per year. Other blocks such as San Jacinto, Achira, San Bernardo and Yava, as well in the mid-Magdalena Valley, and are in the technical exploration and assessment phase. At the Llanos Basin, the company carries out exploration activities at the Caracara block. Llanos Basin includes the areas Agua Verde and Cuatro which are in the technical assessment phase, as well as the oilfields operated by the Spanish mother company. The oilfields are located in Tiple, Los Ocarros and Garibay. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Compañía Española de Petroleos (CEPSA), which is one of the largest energy companies in Spain. CEPSA operates in several European countries as well as in Algeria, Canada, Morocco, Brazil and Panama. It produces more than 260,000 barrels a day and has a refining capacity in three refineries of 21 million ton per year.
