The company is Spain's leading fertilizer manufacturer. It is the amalgamation of the historic companies involved in the fertilizer sector in Spain, such as Unión de Explosivos Rio Tinto, Cros, Enfersa, Fosfórico Español, Abonos del Sureste and others. It was incorporated in July of 1966. The company has a registered office located in Madrid, Spain. The company plays a leading role in fertilizer production in Spain, and it is the fourth largest producer in the European Union. The industrial structure of the company is made up of nine producing centres distributed throughout the Spanish territory. Of the nine producing centres, the Huelva Plant is Europe's earliest phosphoric acid plant, with an annual production of 440,000 tons. The company's production capacity per annum stands at more than seven million tons of intermediate and final products: intermediates: 600,000 tons ammonia; 1,100,000 tons nitric acid; 1,000,000 tons sulphuric acid; 440,000 tons phosphoric acid; final products: 1,450,000 tons nitrates; 450,000 tons urea; 1,500,000 tons compound fertilizers; 50,000 tons superphosphates; 200,000 tons liquid; and soluble fertilizers.
