The company manufactures and sells n-paraffins, Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) and derivatives worldwide. It was created in 1967 and began its production in 1969 at San Roque, Cadiz, Spain. It was the first world LAB plant using HF (Hydrofluoric Acid) technology. Its goal is to maintain the world leadership in LAB production using the state of the art technology, excellence in products, quality and full commitment with environmental protection. The company is the largest single (LAB) production plant in the world. LAB is the basic raw material for the production of Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate (LAS) the most widely used biodegradable surfactant worldwide after soap. The company has three LAB production plants. One in San Roque, Cadiz, (Spain), one in Bécancour, Québec, (Canada) and a third one in Camaçari, Bahia (Brazil). Its products include: n-paraffins; linear alkylbenzene; sulfonic acid; linear alkylbenzene sulfonate; heavy alkylate; and de-aromatized solvents. These products are under the trademarks: Petrepar® ; Petrelab®; Petrelab® - Q; DetenLab®; Petresul®; Petresul® - Q; DetenLAS®; Petrelas®; Petrene®; Petrene® - Q; and Detalp®. The company has undertaken key strategic partnership alliances with: the Universal Oil Products (UOP) on the new DETAL process technology for LAB manufacturing.; Societe Generale de Financement du Quebec (SGF) in the LAB plant of Petresa Canada; and PETROBRAS in the LAB plant of Deten Quimica in Salvador de Bahia (Brazil). It sells and distributes its products worldwide through some of its networks and commercial offices in Spain, Belgium and Brazil.
