The company is primarily engaged in providing cost-effective medium and long term financial support for viable private direct investment projects in foreign countries where there is a Spanish interest. Founded in 1988, the ultimate aim is to conduct a profitable business that contributes both to host country development and the internationalization of Spanish enterprise and the Spanish economy. The company's corporate headquarters is located in Madrid, Spain. The resources at the company's disposal to meet this dual objective include its own shareholders' equity, to back direct investment project located in emerging or developing countries, and the resources of the State-owned Fund for Foreign Investment (FIEX) and Fund for SME Foreign Investment Operations (FONPYME), managed by the company, which enables it to financially support direct investment projects in any foreign country. The company's total financing capacity exceeds 1,000 million Euros. The company always acts on a shared risk basis. According to this criterion, its financing will normally not go beyond the sponsor's own contribution to the operation. Through the financial products offered, the company is in a position to invest, in principle, between 0.25 and 30 million euros per operation. Its dual mission as a financial institution consists of furthering the internationalisation of Spanish enterprise and the country's economy while contributing to the development of the countries hosting its investments. Its vision is to become Spain's foremost financial institution committed to furthering the internationalisation of Spanish enterprise and financing the private sector in developing countries. The company is a member of the European Development Finance Institutions (EDFI), whose 15 members, bilateral institutions all, provide long-term financing for private sector investments in developing countries or transition economies. The company also has branches in Barcelona, Spain and Mexico.
