The company, a combined cycle gas turbine generation (CCGT) plant and AES Corporation's first facility in Spain, began full commercial operations on December 2006. The 1,200-MW CCGT facility is located on Spain's southeastern coast and has the capacity to generate enough energy to power approximately 300,000 homes in the country. The company's power will support one of the fastest growing economies in Europe. The company buys gas from and sells power to GDF International (GDFI), a subsidiary of Gaz de France, under a 21-year energy agreement. The plant normally operates on natural gas but can also be commissioned to operate on oil. The company is a subsidiary of AES Corporation, a holding company primarily engaged in electricity generation and distribution activities through its subsidiaries.
