Development of building projects
The company is a private company engaged in the development and selling of real estate. It was incorporated in January of 1966, and is headquartered in Madrid, Spain. The company is the real estate division of the Grupo Ferrovial S.A., a construction group with activities in infrastructure, property development and services; and one of the world's leading infrastructures groups. In December 2006, the latter agreed to sell its real estate division to Promociones Habitat SA for 1.6 billion euros (USD 2.1 billion) after its August takeover of airport operator BAA plc inflated debt. The group is selling the real estate division as Spanish house-price growth that's been running at an average 15 percent a year since 1999 begins to cool with higher borrowing costs. The sale of Ferrovial Inmobiliaria will result in a gain of 770 million euros. Under the terms of the deal, Ferrovial Inmobiliaria will first pay a dividend of 160 million euros to its parent and Habitat will then pay 1.44 billion euros to acquire the business. The financing of the acquisition is led by Barcelona-based savings bank La Caixa. The company is active in Spain and abroad. Its business operations outside Spain principally include Portugal, The Netherlands and Chile.
